Landscape Ecology
Landscape ecology is the scientific study of the relationship existing between ecological processes and spatial variation on a massive amount of landscape scales and organizational ranks. This study covers societal and biophysical causes of variations and the consequences of the heterogeneity of landscape.
The main themes of landscape ecology are; the relationship that exists between the landscape’s processes and patterns, the spatial pattern of landscapes that range from cities to wilderness, the relationship and the effect of human activity to landscape patterns, landscape processes and changes, and finally the result of the scale of landscape. In general, landscape ecology is characterized by its emphasis on the relationships existing between patterns, scales and processes and the focus it has on environmental issues.
Various factors ought to influence how you are going to plan the landscape of your home. It will be affected by structures, plants and of course the climate among many other things. Note that most of the things that will affect your landscape are things you have no control over, but knowing about them will assist you in planning.
One of the things is the precipitation and drainage; since it’s your plant’s main supply of water, you should be aware of the rain’s pattern in your area. You can find out from a local weather station. The main thing to find out is the average annual amount of rainfall and its pattern, when the area is wet and when it’s dry.
You should also be well versed with the sun and shades patterns, be keen on the number of hours each part of your landscape is exposed to. The optimal number of hours should be 6 hours or more, anything else is termed as shade. Largely, when you study the patterns that are described in land ecology, you will be able to plan and prepare your landscape.
